The Mathematical Sciences Institute are pleased to announce the introduction of the Johnstone Family Scholarship, a $5,000 per annum scholarship for undergraduate students.

The objective of the award is to support undergraduate students pursuing studies in mathematics or statistics at the Australian National University.

Funding for this award has been provided by Professor Iain Johnstone (Bachelor of Science (Hons), 1978 and Master of Science, 1979) as a tribute to his parents.

The Johnstone Family Scholarship will provide $5,000 per annum for up to three years in total and may include an Honours year at the discretion of the Selection Committee.

Eligibility

The award is available to a continuing ANU student who:

  • is a domestic or international student;
  • Is enrolled in an undergraduate degree in mathematics and/or statistics (including the Bachelor of Mathematical Science, the Bachelor of Statistics, or a Bachelor of Science with a significant mathematical and/or statistical component, as determined by the Selection Committee);
  • has completed a minimum of 48 units and a maximum of 96 units of their degree course;
  • can demonstrate a history of excellent academic performance in their undergraduate degree program.

Preference may be given to applicants enrolled in the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences with a research interest in statistics.
