MATH6209 - Special Topics in Mathematics: Symplectic geometry and symplectic topology

Format: 10 two hour lectures and presentations. I will give five lectures covering linear symplectic geometry, symplectic manifolds, symplectic topology.

Participants will give presentations on the following topics

  •      Darboux-Weinstein theorem
  •      Hamiltonian actions and symplectic reduction
  •      Lagrangian subspaces and Maslov index

Prerequisites:  linear algebra, multivariable calculus and some familiarity with the notion of smooth manifolds (a review of the latter subject can be done if demanded)
