Embedded Constant Mean Curvature Surfaces

One of differential geometry's most ancient problems is to classify constant mean curvature (CMC) surfaces in Euclidean space, where the average of the maximum and minimum principal curvatures at any point is the same along the surface. After giving some background, one will show that the only closed embedded CMC surface must be the sphere, using a moving planes argument.

The PhD seminar is a weekly seminar held on Wednesday afternoons, from 2:30-3:30pm. This seminar is for PhD students to talk about their thesis work or other projects.
