Talk 1 (Michael Howes): How not to count.

Abstract: It’s well known that the axiom of choice can lead to some surprising and even paradoxical results such as non-measurable sets and the Banach Tarski paradox. Less commonly discussed are the equally strange things that can happen when we abstain from the axiom of choice. As we shall see it becomes possible to increase the cardinality of a set by moding out by the right equivalence relation – come see how it can be done.
