Moduli spaces and stacks

Many important problems in mathematics concern classification. In geometry, we classify geometric objects and strive for geometric solutions, so called moduli spaces. It turns out that moduli spaces often have a more subtle geometric structure than the original objects due to the presence of automorphisms. To get an actual moduli space, stacks are therefore necessary.

In this talk, I will give a gentle introduction to moduli spaces and algebraic stacks directed towards a general audience.
