# Algebra and Topology Seminar

These seminars invite speakers from a broad spectrum of areas, including algebraic and differential geometry, algebraic topology, low-dimensional topology, representation theory, quantum algebra, and number theory.

There is also a Google calendar for the seminar, which typically lists scheduled speakers in advance of their posting here.

Dr Uri Onn, ANU

A useful approach for studying representations of reductive groups over finite or local fields is to use parabolic induction and restriction that allow one to relate representations of different groups.

### Functoriality of the Khovanov homology »

In 1999 Khovanov assigned to a knot (or link) a complex whose homotopy type is a link invariant and whose Euler characteristic is the Jones polynomial. This construction is known as a categorification of the Jones polynomial.

### Highest weight categories - revisited »

We briefly recall the classical highest weight categories theory (following Cline-Parshall-Scott, Donkin and Ringel) for finite dimensional algebras in a language which allows generalizations to stratified algebras and infinite situations.

### Affine Lie algebras and rational Cherednik algebras via the Suzuki functor »

The Suzuki functor connects the representation theory of the affine Lie algebra to the representation theory of the rational Cherednik algebra in type A. In this talk we generalize Suzuki's original construction to the critical level case.

### On the critical loci of finite maps »

Consider a rational function f(z) of degree n. To f(z), we can associate its set of critical points, namely the points z where the derivative vanishes.

### An approach to the local geometric Langlands conjectures via higher representation theory »

The local geometric Langlands conjectures, formulated by Frenkel and Gaitsgory, give a geometric description of the representation categories of affine Lie algebras at the critical level.

### Gauging modular categories »

Gauging is a procedure for taking a modular category equipped with an action by a finite group, and producing a new modular category.

### From ADE to Fermat curves and beyond: modular invariants for the quantum groups »

In 1987, Cappelli-Itzykson-Zuber classified the conformal field theories (more precisely their modular invariant partition functions) associated to the sl(2) quantum groups.
