Description
Abstract: In these lectures, we will present a general argument for finding solutions to geometric variational problems that are not necessarily stable. This is known as the min-max argument, and was originally used by Birkhoff to find closed geodesics in S2. In this third lecture, we will continue studying Birkhoff’s curve shortening process.
