A particularly beautiful area of geometric control theory is that of optimal control on Lie groups. The control system is left-invariant and the Lie algebra structure combines with the Pontryagin maximum principle to study the extremal curves. In this project you will explore this theory and apply it to an optimal control problem on the Lie group of rotations SO(3), and possibly other groups.
