A notion of generalized solution for nonlinear partial differential equations, called viscosity solution has undergone considerable development in recent years. This notion has turned out to be the right one for characterizing non-smooth phenomena in many applications such as phase transitions, interface problems and evolving fronts.

The project involves a description of the basic notion and its properties.

The prerequisite would be basic analysis including some measure theory.
