Description
Abstract: In the landscape of geometric topology, braids were introduced to simplify the description of knots and links. At the same time, they are still rigid enough to yield a rich algebraic structure. In this talk, we will explore the interplay between topology and algebra mediated by braids, and show how representations of the braid group can produce invariants of knots and 3-manifolds.
