Description

Abstract:

I’ll explain how the big Witt vector construction can be defined without using subtraction, thus extending it to a functor on all semirings. I’ll describe explicitly the Witt vectors of the natural numbers and of the non-negative reals, where it essentially Schoenberg’s classical notion of total positivity. I’ll also discuss Frobenius flows and a possible connection with Deninger’s hypothetical spaces.
