Clustering, ie finding groups of similar objecs, is a central theme in data mining. While the k-means algorithm is one of the most popular at the moment, strong contenders are based on the estimation of density. Follong a review of the literature the various methods should be compared and a new method based on finite element techniques and sparse grids investigated.
