Abstract
Character varieties parameterise representations of the fundamental group of Riemann surfaces. They are central objects in mathematics with deep connections to Higgs bundles, flat connections, and Yang—Mills theory. Huge amount of research has been done on these moduli spaces; however, many basic questions remain open. I will discuss some of these questions and possible avenues of investigation.
