The MSI-Google Research Fellowships

Classification: Multiple positions, Academic Level B or C

Salary Package: Level B  $103,841 – $117,736 pa plus 17% superannuation, Level C  $124,685 – $138,583pa plus 17% superannuation

Term: Full-time, Fixed term with the possibility of conversion to ongoing.

The Mathematical Data Science Centre (MDSC), located within the ANU’s Mathematical Sciences Institute (MSI) invites applications from outstanding researchers who are interested in the study of mathematical aspects of Data Science, and in the way a better understanding of such questions can be implemented in real-world algorithms. 

The MSI-Google Research Fellowships are part of a new partnership between Google Research Australia, headed by Professor Peter Bartlett, and MSI's Mathematical Data Science Centre, led by Professor Shahar Mendelson.

These prestigious fellowships are fixed-term, research intensive positions for up to five years, and at academic Level B and/or Level C (roughly the equivalent of Assistant/Associate Professor in the US system). In exceptional cases a fixed-term position can be converted to ongoing (tenured) positions.

Successful candidates will be able to devote their time to research activities, with a very minimal (graduate level and related to the core interests of the MDSC) teaching and administrative load. The standard ANU salary package is Level B $103,841 – $117,736 pa plus 17% superannuation, and Level C $124,685 – $138,583 pa plus 17% superannuation. The fellowships come with a generous research support grant.

The MDSC has two strategic partnerships with Google Research Australia and with ETH Zurich.  Successful candidates are encouraged to pursue collaborations with our two strategic partners. The ANU would accommodate successful applicants who would like to reduce their employment percentage and work for our industry partner at a fractional appointment. Tenured Positions in Mathematical Data Science (multiple positions)

Term: Full-time, continuing (tenured).

The Mathematical Data Science Centre (MDSC), within the ANU’s Mathematical Sciences Institute (MSI) invites applications from outstanding researchers who are interested in the study of mathematical aspects of Data Science, and in the way a better understanding of such questions can be implemented in real-world algorithms. 

These tenured positions are in MSI/MDSC, and we are looking for candidates with the potential of becoming part of the Centre's future leadership team. The positions involve research and teaching (reduced to one course per year in the first two years).  Appointments are at academic levels B, C, D (roughly the equivalent of Assistant/Associate Professor/Professor in the US system), depending on the applicant's experience.

The standard ANU salary package is Level B $103,841 – $117,736 pa plus 17% superannuation and Level C $124,685 – $138,583 pa plus 17% superannuation, and Level D $149,002 – $158,269 pa plus 17% superannuation. The positions come with a generous research support grant.
