TopTime Conference (October 27-31 2025, ANU)

Topological Data Analysis (TDA) is a research area at the intersection of Algebra, Topology, Geometry, Statistics and Machine Learning. While methods from TDA have been applied successfully to data from a variety of domains — from financial mathematics, to materials science, climate science, biomedical imaging, or social science —, there has been less work done on studying in a principled way how such methods can be applied to data that changes dynamically over time. The goal of this workshop is to bring together experts in TDA with experts in application domains in which time-varying data is particularly prevalent. Examples include time series in climate modelling and financial mathematics, as well as dynamic networks in epidemiology and social science modelling.

Applications of Topological Data Analysis to Mathematical Biology. (November 2024, MATRIX, Creswick, Australia)

This workshop aims to bring together experts in algebraic topology, topological data analysis and mathematical biology with an aim to build bridges and collaboration between these research groups. Key speakers and other participants will come from diverse research backgrounds from pure mathematics to bioinformatics. There is extensive evidence that partnerships between these seemingly disparate research areas can yield spectacular results, increasing the impact of mathematical research. Biological applications have also motivated the development of new mathematical theory.

Winter school, June 2024: Darwin, Australia

Increasing the involvement of mathematicians in data science research is of crucial importance for the future of mathematics, science and technology. Graduate winter/summer schools give graduate students and early career researchers exposure to high-quality modern research on the mathematical foundations of data science – showing them that data science is a truly exciting mathematical research area.
